Now that summer is almost here, are you looking for a fun opportunity
to connect with other booklovers, to boost your program/curriculum development,
and to obtain up to 25 CEU’s??!
Arrowhead Library System is happy to host a Camp Read-A-Lot on Friday,
August 8, 2014
at Giants Ridge
Resort in Biwabik, MN
!  This day-long
event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Camp Read-A-Lot is an all-day summer workshop for all public
library staff, school media staff and teachers working with youth in grades
2-5.  Camp attendees register for camp,
read the books on the “camp booklists” that could be used in connection with
programming/curriculum development, and then attend the camp event to listen to
great speakers and discuss the books with the other campers!
I’m thrilled to say Nonfiction booktalker
Kathy Baxter and Minnesota Book Award author Alison McGhee will be presenting
at Camp – how cool is that?!   For more details on our speakers, visit http://www.kathleenbaxter.com/ and http://www.alisonmcghee.com/.
If this sounds like a ton of fun to you, here’s how to get
started:
  • ·
Register for camp by clicking on the following
    link by Friday, August 1, 2014:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2014alscampreadalot
  • ·
Pay the $20 registration fee (covers all
refreshments and lunch) by sending a check (written to
ALS) or cash to Mollie Stanford at Arrowhead Library System by Friday, August 1, 2014
  • ·
Select one of the booklists — Grades 2-3
or Grades 4-5 — and read the titles before camp
  • ·
Write a brief book review for each title you
read – think about how the books could be used in programming or
curriculum.  These reviews will be turned
in at the end of Camp to determine CEU’s.
  • ·
Attend Camp on August 8th and be
ready for a day of excitement and laughter!

A block of one bedroom condos ($105 + tax) has been reserved
at Giants Ridge under ALS Camp Read-A-Lot – if you’d like to stay overnight on
Thursday, August 7 at your own expense, please feel free to book a room by July
18, 2014.
Camp cancellations must be made by August 1st to
receive a refund.  Refunds will not be honored
for “no shows” unless a special circumstance is communicated via phone or email
to me.
ALS scholarships for member libraries are available to cover
the registration fee and mileage.   Please contact Mollie Stanford at molliestanford@alslib.info for more information.  Hope to see you in August!
