Duties and Responsibilities

The Library Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Grand Marais Public Library. Located in a beautiful building remodeled in 2011 nestled in the neighborhoods of Grand Marais, the Library is a short distance from downtown and one block from Lake Superior.

Funded by an agreement between the City of Grand Marais and Cook County, a seven-member library board guides the policy and has recently updated its strategic plan. The Library is staffed by 5.1 full-time employees and has a collection of 21,773 items with an annual circulation of 74,950.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements include Considerable knowledge of library operations, a Bachelor’s degree in library science or a related field, and two (2) years experience in library management.  An MLS is highly desired.


The Library Director’s salary starts at $51,896, with increases to $57,662 within a year, and includes an excellent benefits package.

Technical Services Manager | Kitchigami Regional Library System

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the personnel and operations of the technical services area within the Kitchigami Regional Library System. This includes acquisitions, cataloging, processing, interlibrary loan and delivery services, the ILS and electronic services.  Ideal candidate has experience in ILS management, cataloging, supervising, and a passion for staying up to date with the ever changing technology in public libraries. Starting salary 26.58/hour. 40 hours per week. Open until filled.

Kitchigami Regional Library System provides public library service through nine community branches and a mobile library to five counties in north-central Minnesota. Counties include: Beltrami, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, and Wadena.

Qualifications: Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Library Science and/or Information Science and 1-3 years of relevant experience.
