Arrowhead Library System: Baudette Public Library Project Summary
DESCRIPTION:
The Baudette Public Library is pleased to announce a Request for Qualifications to create an exterior piece of public artwork for the Baudette Public Library. The artwork will celebrate one or more community-specific, artistic, cultural and/or historical attribute(s) and be placed outside the library for all to enjoy.
ELIGIBILITY:
The RFQ is open to all artists 18 years of age or older currently living in Northern Minnesota working in any media.
PROJECT BUDGET:
Total: $12,000 inclusive all artist fees, travel, research, design, material, fabrication, transportation, installation/construction and documentation.

November 1, 2017
SITE SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS:
The proposed artwork should celebrate one or more of key artistic, cultural and/or historical attribute(s) of Baudette Public Library and enhance the library building’s function as a source for art, culture and history within the community. The intention of this public artwork is to create art that reflects the community and reinforces the perception of the library as a place to experience art, culture and tourism.
Artwork located outdoors should be cost effective and durable due to the exposure to outside elements.
BACKGROUND:
The Baudette Public Library is located at 110 1st Avenue SW, Baudette, MN 56623.
The Baudette Public Library is a welcoming institution for children, teens, families and adults of all ages and abilities.

HOW TO APPLY:
Artists interested in the project should submit ONE copy of each of the following:
LETTER OF INTEREST, no more than one page in length, which explains the artist’s interest in the project, relevant experience, and philosophy on public art.
A CURRENT RESUME, no more than two pages, including references.
DIGITAL IMAGES, of previous work in pdf or jpeg files emailed
AN IMAGE LIST with the artist’s name and a brief description of each image including its title, date, medium, size, location, and a cost.
SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE appropriately sized and sufficiently stamped for the return of application materials (if desired).
The desk deadline for submitting materials is September 15, 2017.

- An Artist Selection Committee comprised of staff from the Baudette Public Library and/or Library Board will review all artists’ submissions and select a finalist.
- The finalist will interview with the committee at the Baudette Public Library.
- If the initial meeting is successful, the project proposal submitted to Arrowhead Library System Board for approval. The contract will be held with the Arrowhead Library System and the artist.
- The artist will make a presentation to the selection committee of their proposed work for the site including a visual representation, materials, size, weight, installation requirements, details of maintenance guideline, and budget.
- Upon approval of this design, the artist will begin work.
- The project will be completed and installed by August 4, 2018
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This project is funded in part or in whole with funds from Minnesota’s Art and Cultural Heritage Legacy Fund.
The committee reserves the right to exercise its discretion and apply its judgment with respect to any aspect of this request for proposals; the evaluation of proposals and the negotiation and award of any contract, and to weigh its evaluation criteria in any manner it deems appropriate. The committee also reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject any and all proposals and to waive minor irregularities.
