The Arrowhead Library System (ALS), based in Mountain Iron, Minnesota on the edge of the BWCA, serves rural residents in a seven‑county area and coordinates cooperation among 29 autonomous member public libraries, is seeking a Technical Services Librarian (a contract position) to manage a project that will transform the Technical Services department into an efficient and modern unit. The project will be based on a study conducted by OHIONET, which was completed in March of 2009. This manager will be responsible for planning and overseeing the transition of the Technical Services department into a more effective and efficient service provider for library patrons. A successful transition will require that the duties and responsibilities of current staff members evolve, shift, and change. These changes are being made in order to maximize library resources in the current economic climate, and provide the best possible services to ALS libraries. This position is expected to last two years.

Requirements: An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science. Minimum of two years professional cataloging experience. Public library and/or Bookmobile experience is highly desirable. Must have experience in preparing a department budget. Must have supervisory experience. Must have experience working with vendors in ordering shelf-ready materials and related automated acquisition processes.
