Arrowhead Library System is a proud supporter of summer and winter reading programs throughout our seven county region. Regional patrons may participate in programming through Mail-A-Book, by visiting the ALS Bookmobile, or signing up at local public libraries.  Themes vary from year to year, but program activities always support literacy development and encourage life-long library use.

2021 Winter Reading Program – Every year, the Arrowhead Library System Graphic Designer creates themed Winter Reading Program materials for member libraries, including posters, bookmarks, and reading logs for youth and teens.  Our 2021 ALS Winter Reading Program theme is Get Your Hands on a Good Book!

2021 Summer Reading Program – Arrowhead Library System supports the iREAD Summer Reading Program — the 2021 theme is Reading Colors Your World.  The broad motif of “colors” provides a context for exploring humanity, nature, culture, and science, as well as developing programming that demonstrates how libraries and reading can expand your world through kindness, growth, and community.  Library patrons young and old will be encouraged to be creative, try new things, explore art, and find beauty in diversity.  Each year, ALS offers a Summer Reading Program Kickoff for youth services staff across the region to connect staff, to share ideas, and to discuss program implementation at the local level.   ALS also offers reimbursement of theme-related paper products purchased from the IREAD catalog.  For more information on reimbursement, please contact Mollie Stanford at

Legacy Programming – Thanks to funding from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, the Arrowhead Library System provides access to free art, history and cultural programs at public libraries and their community partners.  For more information about booking Legacy programs, please contact Mollie Stanford at
