Arrowhead Library System is a proud supporter of summer and winter reading programming throughout our seven county region.  Regional patrons may participate in programming through Mail-A-Book, by visiting the ALS Bookmobile, or by signing up at your local participating public library.  Themes vary from year to year, but program activities always support literacy development and encourage life long library use.  These programs are optional for public libraries — to find out if your local library is offering a summer or winter reading program, please visit our Member Public Library page for contact information.

2020 ALS Summer Reading Program –
Calling all kids!  Are you ready to read, investigate and discover this summer?!  Arrowhead Library System invites kids and families of all ages living in Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Lake of the Woods, and St. Louis counties to DIG DEEPER by participating in two exciting and engaging summer programs this year!

Get out your crayons, markers, pens, pencils or paint to create a cool bookmark about digging into reading and books!  ALS is offering a Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover Bookmark Design Contest.  Kids of all ages are encouraged to print off the bookmark template by clicking HERE and create a unique design.  Entries must be submitted via mail and postmarked on or before August 28, 2020.  Prizes will be awarded for the five most creative submissions.  Entries can be mailed to:

ALS is also offering a Dig Deeper Summer Activity Postcard Program this year.  Kids who sign up will receive a series of five unique activity postcards via mail every 2-3 weeks, encouraging them to dig deeper and experience new things during the summer months.  All children in a household may sign up to participate as we know it’s always fun for kids to get mail!  Program is geared towards kids ages birth-grade 5 and their family members.  *Registration for this program is now closed — make sure to check back next year!

Feel free to print a copy of our summer reading coloring book and activity book!

2021 Winter Reading Program – Every year, the Arrowhead Library System Graphic Designer creates themed Winter Reading Program materials for member libraries, including posters, bookmarks, and reading logs for youth and teens.  Our 2021 ALS Winter Reading Program theme is Get Your Hands on a Good Book!
