Authors will participate in readings and discussion of their award-winning books as part of a statewide tour.
The Grand Marais Public Library and The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, as the Minnesota Center for the Book, will present an author event as part of the Moving Words series, a tour of Minnesota Book Award winners across Minnesota. Authors Cary Griffith, Ed Bok Lee, Wendy Webb, and Mary Wingerd will come together for readings and discussion at Grand Marais Public Library. This event is free and open to the public. ASL interpretation provided upon request with two weeks advance notice.
Featuring multi-genre, Minnesota Book Award-winning authors, Moving Words is an opportunity for writers and readers to explore various themes together: the impact of literature in their lives, their connection as fellow Minnesotans, and the lens through which we read.

Cary Griffith
Lost in the Wild, Opening Goliath, winner of a 2010 Minnesota Book Award, Wolves, winner of a 2013 Midwest Book Award and Minnesota Book Award finalist, Savage Minnesota, and Gunflint Burning: Fire in the Boundary Waters, a 2019 Minnesota Book Award finalist.
Ed Bok Lee
Lee is the author of Whorled, winner of a 2012 American Book Award, and a Minnesota Book Award for Poetry, and Real Karaoke People, winner of a 2006 PEN/Open Book Award. He has received grants and fellowships from the Jerome Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Minnesota State Arts Board, and National Endowment for the Arts. Mitochondrial Night, his third collection of poems, was recently released from Coffee House Press.
Wendy Webb
Webb is the bestselling and award-winning author of five novels of gothic suspense, The Tale of Halcyon Crane (which won the Minnesota Book Award in 2011), The Fate of Mercy Alban, The Vanishing, and The End of Temperance Dare, a 2018 Book Award winner. Her most recent book is The Daughters of the Lake. She lives in Minneapolis.
Mary Wingerd
Wingerd is a recently retired Professor of History and Director of the Graduate Program in Public History at St. Cloud State University. She is the author of Claiming the City: Politics, Faith and the Power of Place in Saint Paul and North Country: The Making of Minnesota, winner of a Minnesota Book Award and Hognander Minnesota History Award.
Presented by BNSF Railway Foundation, Moving Words is a program of The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library as the Library of Congress-designated Minnesota Center for the Book. Additional support is provided by the Harlan Boss Foundation for the Arts and Education Minnesota. About the Minnesota Book Awards
The Minnesota Book Awards is a year-long program that connects readers and writers across the state with the stories of their neighbors. The process begins in the fall with book submissions and continues through winter with two rounds of judging. Winners are announced at the spring Minnesota Book Awards Ceremony. Woven throughout the season are various events that promote the authors and connect the world of Minnesota books – writers, artists, illustrators, publishers, editors, and more – to readers throughout the state.
