At the recent MLA Conference, the 2022 Minnesota Author Project – Communities Create winner was announced as Bringing Joy: A Local Literary Welcome. This community collaboration is an anthology of poetry and art celebrating the work of Muscogee poet, performer, and 23rd United States Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo.
The Communities Create category, in its third year, celebrates Minnesota organizations and communities that are producing written creative works, especially with the support of their local library. Winners receive $2,000 and a commemorative award, as well as other accolades and perks. Prizes are sponsored by the Minnesota Library Foundation and BiblioLabs.
Bringing Joy was published by Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, a public tribal land-grant community college in Cloquet, Minnesota. Part of the Minnesota State system, Fond du Lac enrolls more than 2,700 students each year.
Communities Create asks writers and publishers about what the library means to your organization or the creation of your work. Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College believes libraries are their partners in education. “As a small, rural tribal and community college, libraries are important points of access to resources and knowledge.”
